YOUR Heart that ye love one another as I have loved you." John 13:34 What does it mean to have God's kind of love? Jesus came to earth as the embodiment of God's love. He demonstrated every day what it means to love the unlovely, to love the unworthy. And finally to die for those who didn't deserve it. This kind of love is called agape love. And few mortals comprehend it, let alone posses it. Thus, the first step to beginning to gain this type of love in our hearts is to work on comprehension. In this pursuit, I would like for you to complete the following assignment: Read 1 Corintians 13 every morning and every night for 30 days. Read it in many versions of the Bible and memorize it. Try to get your mind around each concept within it. For within this beautiful chapter is a step-by-step guide to possessing God's kind of love. And only by meditating on it to this level of saturation can the human mind begin to appreciate it. without learning them, and could speak in every language there is in all of heaven and earth, but didn't love others, I would only be making noise. If I had the gift of prophecy and knew all about what is going to happen in the future, knew everything about everything, but didn't love others, what good would it do? Even if I had the gift of faith so that I could speak to a mountain and make it move, I would still be worth nothing at all without love. If I gave everything I have to poor people, and if I were burned alive for preaching the Gospel but didn't love others, it would be of no value whatever. Love is very patient and kind, never jealous or envious, never boastful or proud, never haughty or selfish or rude. Love does not demand its own way. It is not irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges and will hardly even notice when others do it wrong. It is never glad about injustice, but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. If you love someone you will be loyal to them no matter what the cost. You will always believe in them, always expect the best of them and always stand your ground in defending them. All special gifts and powers from God will someday come to an end, but love goes on forever. Someday prophecy, and speaking in unknown languages, and special knowledge- these gifts will disappear... There are three things that remain- faith, hope, and love- and the greatest of these is love. |
