Is the Prophetic Gift a Thing of the Past?
Your Questions - Bible Answers

(In the Bible, it states the following):
1COR 12:28 And God has appointed these in the church: first apostles, second
prophets, third teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps,
administrations, varieties of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are
all teachers? Are all workers of miracles?
EPH 3:5 which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as it has
now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets.
EPH 4:11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some
evangelists, and some pastors and teachers...
SO THE BIBLE DOES NOT DENY THE EXISTENCE OF APOSTLES AND PROPHETS TODAY SO
WHY DO THE FUNDAMENTAL EVANGELICALS DENY THEM?

I've read your question. I've read these Bible texts and many others which say
the same things... What are you asking of me? Are you asking for a statement of
beliefs from the Fundamental Evangelical movement? I am sorry, but I am not up on
that. I can neither confirm nor deny your statement that they teach something
contrary to the Word of God. And if you are asking me to DEFEND a church that is
teaching things contrary to Biblical teachings - I certainly cannot do that!
So let's address this question from a different angle. What is your ultimate
authority for Truth? Friend, I submit to you that NO RELIGION should be your ultimate
authority for what is God's Truth. The only ULTIMTATE AUTHORITY on God's Truth is
God's Word.
Obviously the Bible teaches that God gives the gift of prophecy throughout history.
And the Bible even gives us instructions of how to handle prophecies today. We are
to "prove" them by studying what is given as new light and comparing it with the
old light we know to be true. In other words, new light or teachings are to be
examined against the Bible. If there is no contradition, then embrace the new light.
I Thessalonians 5:19-21:
"Quench not the Spirit. Despise not prophesyings. PROVE ALL THINGS. HOLD FAST THAT
WHICH IS GOOD."
I John 4:1-3:
"Beloved, believe not every spirit, but TRY THE SPIRITS whether they are of God;
because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby (By this test you
will know) know ye the Spirit of God. Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus
Christ is come in the flesh (that Jesus became a man) is of God. And every spirit
that confesseth NOT that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is NOT of God; and this
is the spirit of antichrist..."
Friend, if you are involved in a religious movement
that does not pass the Biblical test (that of "TRYING" or testing the spirit they are
from against the Scriptural Word of God), then you are NOT involved in a movement
that is of God. Get out of it. And seek out a Bible-based religion. For God's Word
is the only ROCK of truth we have to stand on among the shifting winds of doctrines
in this world today.
I will leave you with this key to finding the truth:
2 Timothy 2:15:
"STUDY (study the Word of God) to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that
needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (correctly understanding) the Word of
Truth."
Ulimately, you stand alone before God. You will answer to Him for what the Bible says.
This is His measure of Truth not any relgion. Thus, you must embrace the Bible and
the Bible alone as your source of ultimate Truth.
