The Lighted Way
The Second Coming of Christ

1. How can we be certain Yahshua (Jesus) will come to earth a second time?

"Christ... shall... appear the second time." Hebrew 9:28

"It I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again..." John 14:3

Yahshua even testified under oath that He would come back to this earth again (see Matthew 26:64). Since the Scripture cannot be broken and Yahshua cannot lie, (John 10:35), this is proof positive. Yahhsua will return to this earth again.

2. What will it be like when Yahshua comes again?

"While they (the disciples) beheld, He was taken up; and a cloud received Him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as He went up, behold, two men (angels) stood by them in white apparel; Which also said, 'Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Yahshua, Which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner (in the same way) as ye have seen Him go'." Acts 1:9-11

Yahshua left the earth in a literal, physical manner. He was tangible and real. In this same way, He will come again. He will come in the clouds with a body (Luke 24:36-43, 50-51). And, just as the disciples could see Him go, so we will see Him return.

"They shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory." Matthew 24:30

3. Will the Second Coming of Christ be seen by all, many or just a select few?

"Behold, He cometh in the clouds; and EVERY EYE SHALL SEE HIM." Revelation 1:7

"For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be." Matthew 24:27

Every person on this planet will see Him come. This will take a miracle on our spherical world, but if God says it will be so, than we must believe that He has a method for making it come true. His coming will be visible, just as lightning is. It will be spectacular. All eyes will be mesmerized on the scence of His return. For some of us, His coming will be the best day of our lives. For others of us, His coming will be the worst day imaginable. But like it or not, everyone will be watching at the same time.

4. Who will be with Yahshua as He comes in the clouds?

"When the Son of man shall come in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then shall He sit upon the throne of His glory." Matthew 25:31

Yahshua' first coming was announced by a sky filled with singing angels. It will be similar the second time. The angels will come with Him and will gather the righteous up in order to prepare for the trip back to heaven. (Matthew 24:31)

5. Why will Yahshua come a second time?

"And, behold, I come quickly; and My reward is with Me, to give every man according as his works shall be." Revelation 22:12

"I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also." John 14:3

"And He shall send Yahshua Christ... Whom the heaven must receive until the times of restitution of all things." Acts 3:20-21

When Yahshua comes the next time, it will be to reward the living and the dead. Those who have followed God will receive Eternal life. He will take them to live with Him always. Those who have rejected Him will receive Eternal death.

6. Will the Lord's return be quiet or catastrophic?

"And there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mightly an earthquake, and so great." "And every island fled away (disappeared), and the mountains were not found." Revelation 16:18-20

There will not be anyone sleeping through the Second Coming. It is a bit like child birth. Women who are expecting there first baby sometimes worry over going to sleep near their due date. Will they sleep through it? Never fear! This is a big event! And, as any woman who has gone through child-birth will tell you, it definately gets your undivided attention. The same is true with the Second Coming of Christ. The earth will be shaken so badly, that the mountains will be leveled and the islands will cease to be.

"I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the Lord." Jeremiah 4:26

Every city will be completely leveled. It will be one great reminder of the foolishness of man. All that we work to build and do is of no importance. It has no value unless it helps us to be saved, or helps another to accept God's salvation. Everything else: our greed, our country house, our shiny car, our vacation home, our worldly success... all will be as dust on the ground before His face in that day.

"The Lord maketh the earth empty, and maketh it waste." "The land shall be utterly emptied." Isaiah 24:1-3

7. How can such a terrifying experience be the "best" day in the life of the righteous person?

God will protect His people from this catastrophic event. They will not be harmed (Psalm 91). A "thousand will fall at their side and ten thousand at their right hand, but it will not come near thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked." When do the wicked receive their reward? At the Second Coming! This text is a special shelter to the people of God. They will not even experience the smallest prick of fear as the mountains come crashing down about them. It is the work of the their loving God. They trust Him. Their very lives are preserved in the hollow of His powerful hand.

For the wicked, however, this is a terrifying day. As they see the earth come apart and the God they denied coming in the clouds they nearly die of sheer terror. They would rather die than face Him. So they plead for the rocks to fall on them to hide them so that do not have to stand in His holy presence. (Revelation 6:16)

8. Does the Bible tell us when Yahshua will come?

Yes, and no. It does not say that Yahshua will come on such-and-such a day at some specific time. It does tell us clues so that we may be certain it is near - imminent in fact. "When ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors." Matthew 24:33.

The story is told of a farm chicken. The farmer pulled the chicken out of the coop and put her in a special cage near the kitchen so that she could be given more scraps and fattened up to perfection. The chicken is now living in the time of the end. One day the farmer comes out with an axe in his hand. Now the chicken is living in the end of time. Using this analogy, lets first see if all the prophecies have been fulfilled placing us in the time of the end:

Please note, many of these things, if not all may be fulfilled again just before Yahshua returns. So please, even though you are about to see their fulfillments, be open to the possibility that they may happen again in some manner.

A. Jerusalem would be destroyed

Bible Prophecy: "There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down." "Let them which be in Judea flee into the mountains." Matthew 24:2, 16

Fulfillment: Jerusalem was destroyed in A.D. 70 by Titus, the Roman warrior.

B. A Great Persecution or Tribulation would take place

Bible Prophecy: "For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world." Matthew 24:21

Fulfillment: The Dark Ages, instigated by the apostate church, lasted more than 1,000 years. During it, over 50 million Christians were slain for their faith. One historian puts it this way: The apostate church "has shed more innocent blood than any other institution that has ever existed among mankind." (W.E.H. Lecky, History of the Rise and Influence of the Spirit of Rationalism in Europe, Vol 2, pp 40-45

C. The Sun would turn dark

Bible Prophecy: "Immediately after the tribulation of those days, shall the sun be darkened." Matthew 24:29

Fulfillment: There was a day of supernatural darkness on May 19, 1780. Everyone recognized that it was much scarier than a simple eclipse. They feared it was the judgement day! Timothy Dwight explains: "The 19th of May, 1780, was a remarkable dark day. Candles were lighted... the birds were silent and disappeared, and the fowls retired to roost.... A very general opinion prevailed, that the day of Judgement was at hand." (Connecticut Historical Collections, p 403)

D. The moon would be turned into blood

Bible Prophecy: "The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and terrible day of the Lord come." Joel 2:31

Fulfillment: The night of the famous dark day of May 19, 1780 was just as weird and terrifying. The moon became as red as blood that night. "The moon, which was at its full, had the appearance of blood." (Stone's History of Massachusetts)

E. The stars would fall from heaven

Bible Prophecy: "And the stars shall fall from heaven." Matthew 24:29

Fulfillment: On the night of November 13, 1833, the great star shower fell. It was so bright that the newspaper could be read on the street by its light. One eyewitness writes, "For nearly four hours the sky was literally ablaze." (The Falling of the Stars, The Telescope, May-June 1940, p57) Men thought the end of the world had come. And they were right! These marvelous events clearly fulfilled the prophecy letting us know that we are living in the time of the end! But, continuing our analogy with the chicken, can we narrow it down ever further? We know we're in the time of the end, but are we at the very end of that period also? Are we living in the end of time?

9. Does the Bible tell us how to know if we are in the end of time?

God does indeed tell us just what to look for to know He will come imminently.

A. Capital-labor troubles are a sign of the end of time

"The hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord." "Be patient... for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh (is very near)." James 5:4, 8

Anyone who watches or reads the news knows that this prophecy has been fulfilled. Truly we do live in a time of trouble between capital and labor, just as the Bible predicted would be the case in the end of time.

B. Wars and Commotions are a sign of the end of time

"But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass." Luke 21:9

Friend, when you see the turmoil in the Middle East and in other parts of the world, and when you see catastrophes like September 11 result from these wars, do not be terrified. These, sad and horrible as they are, are also a sign to the righteous who study God's word. Soon, our Lord will come and bring an end to these terrible things.

C. Unrest, fear, and upheaval are a sign of the end of time

"And there shall be... upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity;... Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth." Luke 21:25-26

This sounds very much like an editorial in a current newspaper. We are to expect that the end of time will be filled with terrifying things. There will be no peace. Not until the Price of Peace returns to take us to our heavenly home.

D. Increased knowledge is a sign of the end of time

"Even to the time of the end... knowledge shall be increased." Daniel 12:4

So true is this of our time, that we have been known as the "Information Age". It is said that 80% of the world's total knowledge has only been brought forth in the last decade! And 80% of all the scientists who EVER LIVED are alive today!

E. Scoffers and religious skeptics are a sign of the end of time

"There shall come in the last days scoffers." 2 Peter 3:3

"They will not endure sound doctrine;... And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables." 2 Timothy 4:3-4

This prophecy is obviously being fulfilled. The Bible is being "disproved" on many levels. Scientists try to show it to be foolish by teaching that Creation is wrong. Most do not believe in the Flood. (This is convenient... For if you don't accept that God destroyed the world by water, you won't have to deal with the possibility that He will destroy it by fire). Pseudo-intellectuals have replaced the Bible in many schools of thought. God's Word is being billed as only a Spiritual guidebook. It is not trustworthy. A recent poll discovered that only 2% of American student missionaries actually believe the Bible about a literal Second coming of Christ!

F. Moral degeneracy - and a decline of spirituality is a sign of the end of time

"In the last days... men shall be lovers of their own selves ("look out for number one"), ... Without natural affection (not really loving even the people their ancestors naturally loved),... incontinent,... despisers of those that are good, ... Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof (talking and acting like Christians, but not letting Christ REALLY change their lives)." 2 Timothy 3:1-5

This one is also obviously being fulfilled around us. If you're prepared for a real shock, read 2 Timothy 3:1-5 all the way through to find all of the last-day sins listed there. You can find any and all of them in any issue of your Sunday paper!

G. Pleasure Seeking is a sign of the end of time

"In the last days... men shall be lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God." 2 Timothy 3:1-4

The world has gone crazy for pleasure. We have entertainmentitis. Only a small percentage of our large cities populations attend church regularly. After all, staying home and watching TV is more entertaining than church! America spends billions each year on pleasure but only a tiny fraction of that on God. Just think about a typical American's day. How much time does the average person spend on TV, or movies, etc... Now, how much time does the average person spend reading the Bible, or praying, etc...?

God has nothing against pleasure. We are told that heaven will be filled with things to give us pleasure. It is not the pleasure that is wrong its the focus. Our attention should be on pleasing God, not ourselves. He is to be number 1 in our lives. If our actions put entertainment higher than God, we are in essence creating an idol out of pleasure. And God is clear about how idolatry is a sin (Exodus 20).

H. Increased lawlessness and violence are a sign of the end of time

"Iniquity shall abound (be common)." Matthew 24:12

"Evil men and seducers shall wax (become) worse and worse." 2 Timothy 3:13

"The land is full of bloody crimes, and the city is full of violence." Ezekiel 7:23

This one is so obvious, it needs no comment.

I. Earthquakes, storms and famines are a sign of the end of time

"And great earthquakes shall be in divers (many) places, and famines, and pestilences." Luke 21:11

One-third of the people of the world are hungry, and thousands die every day from starvation. We see earthquakes, storms and floods increasing at an unprecidented rate. All of these things are further proof that we live in the earth's last hours.

J. A promise for the end of time

"This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come." Matthew 24:14

Isn't it beautiful, that amidst such a terrible and sad time, God's people will be working. God's message will go forward to the world. People will be saved.

K. Turning to spiritism is a sign of the end of time

"In the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits (tempting demons)." 1 Timothy 4:1

"They are the spirits of devils." Revelation 16:14

In our world of unrest people are increasingly turning to the spiritual realm for answers about the past and the future. People seek counsel from what used to be called a sorcerer or a witch. Today, we call them psychics. Please complete the Bible study on psychics to see clearly what the Bible says about this practice. The Bible teaches that the dead are dead (see the studies about death).

10. Just how near is Yahshua's coming?

"Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh: so likewise (in the same way) ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors. Verily I say unto you, This generation (the generation that sees all of these signs fulfilled) shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled (Yahshua will come)." Matthew 24:32-34

We can be confident, having seen that all of the signs have already happened and are continuing to happen around us, that Yahshua will come soon. In fact, we are the people who will see Him return.

11. Satan is trying to deceive the world regarding the Second Coming of Christ. How can I be sure I won't be deceived?

"They are the spirits of devils, working miracles." Revelation 16:14

"And shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall decieve the very elect." Matthew 24:24

"To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them." Isaiah 8:20

Not only will Satan lie to the world, he will back his lies with wondrous miracles and amazing sights. His deceptions will be so convincing the Bible tells us that if possible, even the very "elect" would be decieved. This means that the people who are the most holy and closest to God would fall prey to Satan's deceptions if possible. How can we be sure this is not possible? We must test the messages we hear. The test is this: Does it agree with Scripture? If the message is not in agreement with Bible (the law and the testimony), it is not of God.

Have you ever wondered why Satan works so hard to discredit the Bible's accuracy? Its because he wants to deceive you. If he can get you to doubt the authority of the Bible on any level (its scientific accuracy, its historical accuracy, its prophetic accuracy, etc.) You will no longer use the Bible as your testing basis. Your new test will be your own senses. Such a basis is just where he wants you. We are told that his temptations and lies will be so convincing that even the most sincere and converted of Christians will fall prey to it, without the Bible as a means of testing truth. Satan knows that without the Bible, you're sunk.

12. How can I be sure I'll be in the group that is happy about Yahshua's Second Coming?

"Him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out." John 6:37

"As many as receive Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God." John 1:12

"I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts." Hebrews 8:10

"Thanks be to God, Which giveth us the victory through our Lord Yahshua Christ." 1 Corinthians 15:57

Your part in being saved is to give your life fully to Christ and let Him live in you. His part, is to work the mighty miracle in you that changes your life and prepares you for His second coming. Your part is to ask for His help to resist each temptation and to study the Word of God to better know His will. His part is to give you heaven's help to resist every temptation, and to send you the Holy Spirit to guide you into all truth. You can count on Him to do His part! Will you do yours?
